A Typical Day at New Leaf Print E-mail

When the team at New Leaf Detox Resort  asked me to write my version of a ‘typical day’ I had to stop and think for a minute because I managed to fill everyday up with some sort of activity which did include lying by the pool at times, something I was looking forward to. Since I was doing the Sports Detox Program I did some extra activities like cycling, running and swimming in the ocean. However they did ask me to ‘try and tap into your feelings about each of the days’, so I did. When you arrive you are given a dairy. I opted to write on my lap top as I had it on for most of the stay, there is wifi around the whole, resort and in the rooms.

The first memory of ‘feelings’ was nervousness. I really had no idea how I would feel as I am one of these people who can ‘use’ food for comfort. I'm an emotional eater, so the experts say ;-). I also have a bit of a habit of ‘eating at the wrong times’. My Mother likes nothing more than to sit in front of the TV with some goodies (or badies which they really are), lollies and chips, definitely something I picked up from her. While I tend more toward peanuts and dried fruit, I do consume the odd bag of lollies so I really needed to break a few habits, small ones but habits none the less.

6.00am
Tom (New Leaf staff member) would knock on my door “Good morning Sir”, I’d say ‘Hi Tom’ and take a quick shower and change into my beach walking gear. Some mornings we would travel to different beaches and I would take a towel and have a swim.
6.10am
Tom would be waiting in the reception area with the first of the day's detox supplements which included coconut oil, fiber drink and a supplement. This is a pretty simply start to the day. I was a little nervous the first day but after that I relaxed and looked forward to getting outside. I quickly took the oil, drink and supplement, for me that was the best way to consume it.
6.15am
Everyone was ready and we would head down to the beach for a walk. The walk was paced well and not too long. For most people this was their first introduction to the other guests so it was a relaxing way to start the day. On some of the days I would go out on my bike and ride a 40km loop before there was any traffic.
The beach walk lasted about 30 to 40 minutes depending on which way and how far we’d walk. Usually we would walk a different way along the beach and we’d chat a bit, mostly in English and I would practice my Chinese with Tom speaks a few languages. I always felt good on the beach and it marked a sense of achievement as I was starting a new detox day.
7.00am
I was back in my room preparing for the day. I’d usually do some emailing and get some of my business stuff out of the way.
8.00am
I’d be in the pool having a swim then I’d lay out in the sun reading or listening to music. I managed to do quite a bit of study. I had a number of conferences recorded and I listened to them on my MP3. This was great, it was the first time in years I was able to listen to anything all the way through. I really took advantage of this and did quite a lot of study.
9.00am
I would get a call from one of the staff to see the Nurse. This was a simple process of weighing in at the start. She would record it while I was getting my blood pressure and temperature taken. This took all of a few minutes and I was clear to head back to the pool.
10.00am
I would be drinking herbal tea of some sort; I like the ginger so I had a lot of that. Between 10.00 and noon there were opportunities to do some Yoga and Thai boxing or nothing, most of the time I opted for nothing because I knew I would have a run or so some sort of training in the afternoon. I know Yoga is really good for detox, they say a lot of toxins are stored in our bone joints and Yoga is a great way to release them. I like to do Yoga but I'm not very flexible. I like the meditation session after it too.
11.30am
Tom would bring the lunch smoothie poolside for me with another detox drink. Noon - 3.00 pm I pretty much checked in on emails, rested in my room or had a few more swims. Some people have their massage or colonic during this time.
3.00pm
I had a choice of an oil or Thai massage. I mixed them up. The Thai massage is pretty challenging as I was always a little sore from training but it was good. The oil massage is soothing and gentle. I like having the Thai massage outside near the waterfall. The oil massage was in one of the bungalows. The massage lady was very, very skilled and gentle.
4.00pm
It was colon health time. I have to admit colonic irrigation was a challenge at first. I’m not going into the details as I am sure we all figure it out, however the trick is to relax and remember the waves of pressure pass in seconds. The other trick is to take all the coffee based fluid in and hold it for 12 minutes. Actually the success rate for me was 50% I usually lasted between 5 and 12 minutes but the benefits were instant. This is highly understated therapy and has had great results for me and my system. After the colonic there is another supplement and a drink.
4.30pm
I was showered and in my running gear ready for a short run. Some days, especially on the Liver flush days I didn't do any running, actually I stayed close to the bathroom and rested in my room.  I would be a little weak and slightly off but this passed after the Liver flush day. Liver flush was different for everyone and it was different each time I did it but I was always low on energy so it was a rest day for me.
5.15pm
I was dressed again, slipping another tea before my broth type soup. Usually I would take this in a thermals flask and sip it for an hour. The evening soups are very tasty and there is a good variety.
6-8.00pm
I’d check back in with my emails, watch some television or a movie. There are two types of cable television, the one in the room is different from the one in the reception area. I preferred to watch in the reception area where I could relax on the lounge.
8.00pm
I was seriously considering bed. I was sleeping early and waking early. I would have really deep sleeps, sometimes, usually the first few days I’d have vivid dreams. It was interesting recalling them the next day. It is pretty quiet at New leaf, there are some shops not too far away and there was some noise but nothing that kept me away. Besides, I live and work in China so I am used to a lot of ambient noise but Lamai was very quiet.

That’s pretty much a day in my life at the New Leaf Detox Resort Koh Samui. I really enjoyed my time there and will be heading back each year.

I highly recommend the process of body detoxification, like most people I was nervous at first but I am glad I chose the New Leaf Detox team as they have years of experience. Good luck. Kristian - Sydney Australia
