How to Tell if Your Detox is Working
If you’re ready to cleanse and clear your liver, gut, kidneys and lymphatic system, but want to make sure you get the most out of it, start with a baseline. A week or two before your detox, keep a daily log of your food intake, bowel movements, skin condition, energy levels, headache occurrences, muscle aches and pains or any other relevant health incidence. Before beginning your detox, it’s a good idea to know what your cholesterol and blood pressure levels are at, as well as, your current weight and percentage of body fat.
Some signs that detox is working can be less pleasant; especially during the first 2-3 days. You may even feel a little irritable; this is especially true if you were dependent on caffeine, alcohol or tobacco. You may feel fatigued, have body aches and skin breakouts; this is just a big sign that the toxin build-up has been released and is circulating through your body. Don’t worry; they will be eliminated very soon. Continue to write in your journal. What has changed? What effects do you feel?
During your detox, you may experience intense cravings for not only alcohol, tobacco and caffeine but even carbs and sugars. This is completely normal. Within a week or so, these cravings will decrease. This is another positive sign that your detox is working.
Now it’s time to mention different odours which may arise. For example, during your detox, you may have odorous gas and bad breath. This is absolutely normal and nothing to be ashamed of. All this means is that the toxins are still being released from your body. This unpleasant sign that detox is working will diminish in a few days.
A Week Into Your Detox
This where all the good effects of a detox start to take place! You’ll notice your energy levels have increased, your mood is better than ever and your skin is smooth and supple. The pounds, or kilos, will keep coming off which means you should notice your clothes have become a little bit looser. If you have not been staying active, now is a great time to start. Try any kind of activity which increases your breathing and makes you sweat. This will help to tone your muscles and continue to eliminate leftover toxins through your pores. From here until your fast is completed, you will only continue to feel good and look great.
After Your Detox Has Ended
Once you have completed your fast, you should notice an overall sense of wellness. You may even feel like a big change has taken place within your body and in a sense, it has. Even though you cannot see it, your vital organs have been rejuvenated, your digestive system has had a nice vacation and your body has had nothing but healthy vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and hopefully, probiotics.
If you knew what your cholesterol and blood pressure levels were prior to detoxing, you should have them re-checked. Don’t be surprised to see a healthy stabilization of both of these levels. You may also notice that any health problem such as diabetes, IBS, hypoglycemia or Arthritis, have significantly improved. Because your immune system has been boosted, you will lower your chances of becoming sick with common illnesses like the flu.
In regards to exercise, one sign that your detox worked is that you have more energy and motivation to workout. Your breathing may become more regulated, your strength may have increased and your sweat may no longer have an overwhelming odour.
By making the commitment to take part in a detox, cleanse or fast once or twice a year, you will be less likely to suffer from the illness and diseases which affects a large part of the human population. Your risk for Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, heart disease, stroke and cancer will greatly reduce and you will likely become more health conscious, feel happy and healthy.
